14/06/2008 Case study Lexmark:
The site www.printless.it has been developed and published for Lexmark. Thanks to Smartpaper.info technoloogy the customer has got very quickly a site to promote and to launch a national campaign aimed to the use of "green" press technologies. Moreover, Smartpaper.info has produced a full text search "engine friendly" that was quickly indexed by search engines.
 

05/03/2008 Version 2.9.7:
Relevant updates to the layout and to control panel. Now the exclusive double zoom mode is more evident and practical: Smart zoom (made of streamed images, particularly suitable for slow connections and indispensable tool to copy-protect contents), HD zoom (to read one or more whole pages in high definition, now it is really more practical since it can be run by double clicking the flipping page).
In the control panel is now available the code "EMBED SEARCH" to copy and to paste in a web page in order to use the full text search engine directly from the own site. This tool also allows the indexing of all the publication content by search engines.

 The fullscreen pop-up window is no more needed, now the size of the Player  automatically fits the size of the browser window. Smartpaper.info logo has been removed from the main view. Other minor layout updates.

Introduction: Pdf and the web

PDF is a good and useful stantard to publish online catalogue, magazines, newspapers, etc...
PDF comes with these plus:

  • it grants an identical print to the original document;

  • it is fast to publish because it can be produced and immediately uploaded;

  • the same document can be used to be printed or to be published on-line;

These are good plus, but there are also big limits that today are really obvius thanks to the growing demand of interactive web contents:

  • good quality pdf are often of several megabytes and they can be really slow to be downloaded, so it is necessary to convert them in low quality before delivering. During such a conversion images looses quality and the information become poor.

  • if we have to find a data that is in the last page of a pdf, it is necessary to download the entire document uselessly;

  • the vertical reading of a document can confuse the reader;

  • the interactivity is reduced and objects are static;

  • data included in a pdf is "without life", and it is hardly integrated with dinamic systems;

  • once published, we can not avoid that the pdf is stored and saved in the user computer. This sistuation is very important in two cases: when the contents are copyrighted or when the information delivered changes and we cannot be sure that the user is reading the last one.

This messages includes the link to be instantly used to show the digital magazine or catalogue.  The process is simple as to send an e-mail, and the customer is completed independent. This solution is perfect for documents that need to be frequently updated or when it is important that documents are soon available on-line. The cost is an annual fee that includes the possibility to update the same document several times.
     

No hosting

  • As a service on-line with the same procedures described above, but with the difference that at the end of the generation the message sent will have a link to a ZIP file to download and decompress in your own web server.
